EDM Studio, a leading-edge Canadian design firm, is the cross-disciplinary partnership between brothers Andrew and Darran Edmundson. EDM Studio works on interesting and challenging projects where design and programming skills can be combined to deliver innovative solutions. Our primary focus is museum-class installations that combine physical design with digital content in new and interesting ways.

EDM Studio is an agile corporation subscribing to the "Ocean's Eleven approach to project management". Darran Edmundson is a technology enthusiast with an insatiable curiosity and a passion for turning good ideas into bytecode. He is an accomplished software designer and computer graphics programmer with six years experience at the Australian National University's Visualization Laboratory.

An expert in 3D content creation, Darran has been heavily involved in the design and creation of public virtual reality exhibits. He has also produced cutting-edge scientific visualizations, built an internet-controllable telepresence robot, programmed supercomputers, crafted dynamically driven web-sites, written software for next generation video conferencing systems and given technology-related talks around the globe.

Prior to this, Darran was a research physicist in the area of computational nonlinear optics. He holds a PhD in physics from Canada's Simon Fraser University along with UK, Canadian and Australian passports.

Andrew at Nose Hill, Calgary

Andrew Edmundson holds a Masters degree from the University of Waterloo's School of Architecture. His experience is varied, having worked with firms in Guelph, Toronto, Sydney, Canberra and Vancouver. Andrew has been project manager and lead designer on campus master plans for sites as large as 20 acres, several institutional buildings including a 75,000 square foot church, finely-detailed custom homes and 80+ unit apartment blocks. EDM Studio projects aside, Andrew has recently been exploring the application of procedural Hollywood effects package Sidefx Houdini to architectural and industrial design.

Through his work in architecture Andrew has cultivated a variety of skills. Technically, his expertise includes a half-dozen design and graphic software applications including SolidWorks, Autocad, 3D Studio Max, and most of the Adobe Suite. Andrew's technical skills are complemented by his ability to deliver ready-for-construction design and the management skills necessary to coordinate work with engineers, consultants, sub-contractors, clients, and government.
